We have a bit of a thing for hats over here at Mr J Designs. We also have a thing for lights, so we tend to combine them quite a lot. Leaving us with products such as the Charles Bowler Hat light and the Prince Edward Top Hat Light.
Both of those lights are ceiling lights and we wanted to create a lamp that worked as a standing lamp but also kept our individual style of a contemporary quirky twist on the British look. You don’t get much more British than the Bearskin hats worn by the Queens Guard! A bearskin is a tall fur cap, usually worn as part of a ceremonial military uniform. Traditionally, the bearskin was the headgear of grenadiers and it is still worn by grenadier and guards regiments in various armies.
The iconic image of a Queens guardsman standing tall in his ceremonial outfit truly is a splendid one. So replicating it in standing solidier lamp form posed a tricky but ultimately rewarding task.Simplifying the uniform to its three major colours creates a simple aesthetically pleasing symmetry on the standing light without losing its identity.
The Glowing Guard light looks fantastic as a bedside table light as a toy solider in a kids room or even a big kids room. The gold interior gives a warm glow to the room whilst mimicking the gold chin strap.
As a table lamp the Glowing Guard stands out from the crowd as a quirky individual lamp that is sure to get people talking.
